I have a condition....
No matter how hard I try to keep the socks together in the wash I always end up with an odd number of socks. Paul makes fun of me because 1. I'm obsessed with doing laundry, and 2. I'm not sure I've ever done a load of wash and come out with the same amount all socks having their matching pair... Maybe I don't try that hard but just ONCE I'd like each sock to have it's match when I pull it out of the dryer.

It's not your fault. Sock making companies intentionally make one sock out of each pair that melts in extreme heat. That way you have to keep buying new socks.
I thought you knew?
